Problem-and Project-Based Teaching (PPBT) is a significant educational innovation in K-12 education. However, its effectiveness is debated, the fundamental reason is the actual teaching practice is unclear. This paper reviews the research literature on the actual teaching practice of PPBT with 66 empirical studies published between 1998 and 2023. The results show that PPBT has diversified types in actual teaching practice process, "task difficulty and learning ladder" "group cooperative learning" "interdisciplinary teaching" "changes in teacher-student roles" and "assessment of learning outcomes" are the main challenges, finally, this paper introduces the coping strategies proposed by the 66 studies. This review clears up misconception about PPBT teaching practice, and provides insights for the fair development of PPBT teaching practice.
