Nooks and Crannies: How Community Colleges Can Contribute to California’s Educator Workforce

Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 113

Abstract

California faces a critical teacher shortage, exacerbated by disparities in educational access. This study examines the potential California Community Colleges (CCCs) hold to address this challenge by expanding their role in teacher preparation. Despite their significant contributions to the field, CCCs are currently limited in credentialing K-12 teachers in California. By analyzing the Cerritos College Teacher TRAC program, this research explores the feasibility and effectiveness of a community college-based model for preparing and credentialing teachers, potentially paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive pathway to the teaching profession.
