This study explores how commercial off-the-shelf games (COTS) games, and the informal language learning experiences gained through them, can be incorporated into foreign language curricula and formal learning settings. 10 EFL teachers and students participated the study. The data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews, a focus group interview with teachers and students, and stimulated recall interviews with students. MAXQDA 2022 was used for reflexive thematic analysis. The findings indicated that informal learning from COTS games supports formal language education. Integration strategies include using COTS games as extracurricular and supplementary activities; expanding language learning in the classroom through out-of-class game-related content; integration of game narratives and storylines; and leveraging language learning from informal COTS gameplay experiences as a motivational force.
