Designing for Climate Literacy With the ARISE Framework: The GuARdians Project (Poster 5)

Abstract

Our ongoing project—GuARdians of Tomorrow—seeks to increase middle school students' climate literacy in order to better prepare them to understand, engage with, and take actions that mitigate global climate change. To accomplish this, we are developing a mobile augmented reality (AR) app and accompanying curriculum, utilizing our original ARISE framework in the theory-based design of the GuARdians app. In this paper, we introduce the ARISE framework for creating compelling simulations and describe how the components of ARISE have been incorporated into the design of the GuARdians mobile app and curriculum.
