The scarcity of Latina Leadership in higher education is well documented. The College Presidents Demographics and Statistics in the U.S. (2023) reported 52.4 % of college presidents are male and 47.6% are female. When this data is disaggregated by race, 65.3% of all college presidents are White, 14.5% are Hispanic/Latino, 11.1% Black or African American, 4.4% Asian. The need to prepare Latinas for leadership roles is warranted.
Presenters identify unique mentoring needs of Latina leaders and offer a mentoring framework, so that Latinas can occupy leadership roles and remain true to their roots. These roots are evidenced throughout the themes of the book which includes platicas (Chicana feminist methodology) dichos (proverbs), testimonios (personal narratives) and consejos (recommendations).
