Abstract

This qualitative study explores the evolution of the Kid Writing (KW) program at Promise Preschool Center (PPC) from 2021 to 2024. KW is an early literacy approach which encourages children to compose writing based on their lived experiences. While KW initially started as an external intervention, it became embedded within PPC’s culture across a three-year period. Using a thematic analysis of leadership meeting logs, interviews and focus groups with center leaders and teachers, this study highlights the critical role of leadership in creating a supportive environment, fostering teacher efficacy, and integrating KW into PPC’s literacy routines. The findings underscore the importance of sustained professional development, a collaborative culture, and overcoming challenges to achieve long-term success in early literacy initiatives.
