The Evolution of the What Is Happening in This Class (WIHIC) Questionnaire: A Scoping Review

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 403

Abstract

At the 1996 meeting of American Educational Research Association in New York, Barry Fraser, Campbell McRobbie and Darrell Fisher presented the What is Happening in this Class (WIHIC) questionnaire (Fraser et al, 1996). In the almost 30 years since, it has become the preeminent questionnaire in the field of learning environments research, such that Jeffery Dorman (2008) declared that the WIHIC had achieved “bandwagon status.” The purpose of this study is to examine the scope and scale of the WIHIC’s use in contemporary research.
