Harmful Deepfakes in High School Contexts: Co-Designing Recommendations for Policy, Practices, and Design (Poster 36)

Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Harmful deepfakes can now be created quickly and easily by the average AI user, which introduces new opportunities for interpersonal harm and adds complexity to existing school conduct procedures. We partnered with nine public high school teachers to discuss the use of harmful deepfakes in schools, co-create use cases, and provide recommendations for policy, education and training, and design. Findings contribute to the emerging discussion of AI literacy and our collective understanding of an individual’s rights to their likeness and voice.
