Abstract

This paper discusses teachers' perspectives on outdoor education through the XXXX program. Fifteen elementary educators participated in a professional development workshop that focused on nature-based learning. Following the workshop, the teachers implemented a week-long outdoor learning experience with their students. They then participated in Zoom focus group interviews. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts and video revealed ten key themes, including: positive attitudes toward professional development; preparation for teaching in nature; pedagogical readjustments; learning about nature; comparisons to school; positive and novel experience; learning by doing; developing a nature-loving mindset; and promoting social equity and inclusion. Findings highlight educators' enthusiasm, triggered by professional development, toward outdoor education, and perceived positive student impacts.
