Abstract

In response to the complexities of modern family circumstances, we developed distance-learning family math digital workshops to support at-home math learning for young children. These workshops featured user-friendly, self-paced modules covering sorting, counting, number sense, patterns, shapes, and spatial sense. Participants, recruited from a local Head Start program in Compton, California, engaged in five 60-minute sessions available in English and Spanish. Our research employed a situated learning theory framework, focusing on real-life applications. We examined parents’ experiences, confidence, and attitudes towards supporting their children’s math learning. Results highlighted increased parental confidence and awareness, effective engagement in children’s learning, and practical suggestions for workshop improvement. This study underscores the importance of accessible educational resources for fostering equitable learning opportunities.
