Toward a Pedagogy of Writing Process Feedback: Utilizing User Experience to Enhance Educational Research Tools

Sun, April 27, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

Our research involves a collaborative international effort to improve writing pedagogy through a focus on writing process feedback. Specifically, our study details a study conducted by a researcher from the United States and research team in Belgium using Inputlog, a keystroke-logging software tool designed for the visualization and analysis of the writing process (Leijten & Van Waes, 2013). The presentation reports on efforts to develop and test curricula and teacher training materials designed to improve implementation of writing process feedback pedagogies in secondary and post-secondary classrooms. The presentation describes our use of human-centered design principles to evaluate and refine Inputlog, which was initially designed for research, as a process feedback tool for educators.
