Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial and enduring impact on school choices, resulting in more families opting for homeschooling (U.S. Census Bureau, 2021; Smith & Campbell, 2023). There is a growing need for support and resources for homeschooling families, with online learning technology playing an important role. This study examined the impact of IXL, a widely-used online learning platform, on math and English language arts learning at home among Pre-K through 12th grade learners across 20 states. We found a positive impact of IXL on learning outcomes, especially when IXL was used with high fidelity. These results contribute to the body of evidence that online learning platforms like IXL can enhance academic achievement both at school and at home.
