Abstract

This paper tells the story of young Asian Americans who are involved in advocacy work to incorporate Asian American perspectives in Georgia’s K-12 curriculum. Using AsianCrit and counterstorytelling as theoretical and methodological lenses, we sought to understand the role of race in participants’ school experiences and describe the contexts surrounding their advocacy efforts. By centering the voices of young Asian Americans, the study contributes to scholarship that illuminates the role of race and racism in Asian Americans’ schooling and daily lives while building the basis to inform social studies research and praxis.
