Despite being the fastest growing population in the United States and active in music education, Asian and Asian Americans (AAM) music teachers’ voices often are unheard in music education discourses. The purpose of this study is to begin bringing visibility to the experiences of AAM music educators. Research questions: (1) Do AAM music teachers share common experiences based on their racial identities, and if so, how? (2) How might their experiences differ in relation to their (immigrant) generational statuses and various transnational contexts specific to them? We utilized Asian Critical Race Theory (AsianCrit) to examine the experiences of ten AAM music educators. While themes emerged around patterns of racialization, each participant had experiences shaped by transnational contexts and immigrant generation.
