Y’all Aren’t Here for Us: LGBQ+ Student Voices on Campus Inclusion (Poster 40)

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

This study examines the student perceptions of inclusion on LGBQ+ issues in classroom curriculum and their relationship to feeling supported on campus. Analyzing student write-in responses to a survey from 30 colleges and universities, we found that depending on their major and sexuality, LGBQ+ students feel disconnected from university curriculum and campus as a whole. This disconnect was fueled by a lack of engagement around LGBQ+ issues in college classrooms as well as negative experiences engaging in cocurricular spaces.
