Abstract

International students who come to the United States to pursue higher education encounter various challenges as they adapt to a new life and culture. These challenges include English language barriers, as well as pedagogy and curriculum that differs from what is standard in their home countries. These challenges can impact their academic achievement and social lives in different ways, sometimes causing them to struggle academically and feel invisible in the classroom and on campus. This study applied community-based research to explore international students’ experiences and the benefits of culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) in alleviating some of these challenges.
