Abstract

In this paper, we offer a qualitative metasynthesis of family literacy scholarship conducted by Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) scholars who bring racial, linguistic and/or cultural awareness to their work with families and communities, and literacy to illuminate their perspectives and highlight the findings that identified through their research. We reiterate the urgency of constructing, cultivating, and amplifying narratives of family literacy and community scholarship by BIPOC scholars. Current regulations and policies demonstrate anti-Black, anti-LGTBQ, anti-immigrant, anti-Critical Race Theory, and book ban movements that continue to silence important voices in family literacy and community scholarship. Thus, we argue for a synthesis of family literacy scholarship that highlights the voices of BIPOC scholars working in BIPOC communities.
