Abstract

This study investigated the emotional changes experienced by engineering transfer students as they engage in filming peer-advice videos. The intervention aimed to motivate incoming engineering community college transfers using Pekrun's Control-Value Theory (CVT), which states that control and value appraisals affect achievement emotions. Participants (n = 86) recorded their emotional states before and after filming through a diary approach. Post-filming sentiment analysis showed significant positive emotional shifts. The findings revealed various factors contributing to these emotional changes, like learning new skills or getting to help others, which can be categorized into control and value appraisals. Overall, the results suggest that participation in peer-support activities could enhance students’ emotional well-being, which can be used for social and emotional support and instruction.
