Abstract

The library science faculty at [Redacted] University is developing an archival studies curriculum that operationalizes a decolonizing approach to teaching archives focusing on community-based collections in rural contexts. This goal is being achieved via the faculty’s participation in a nine-unit consortium of North American library science programs called FOCAS: Faculty Organizing for Community Archives Support. FOCAS: [University redacted]’s archival curriculum consists of courses on genealogy, personal information management, archival research, and community engagement. This poster showcases the program's innovative approach to curricular development that centers community knowledge and needs. The poster illustrates outcomes related to faculty building relationships with stakeholders in rural communities to support their heritage-based archival work.
