Credentialing Workplace Learning: Factors Impacting Prior Learning Assessment

Wed, April 23, 9:00 to 10:30am MDT (9:00 to 10:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 402

Abstract

Factors impacting the use of block credit prior learning assessment (BC-PLA) was analyzed
using a Multiple-Indicator Multiple-Cause (MIMIC) model. The analysis explored the impact of
age, gender, and GPA on awarding credit hours among students to earn 24 collegiate credit hours
or 30 non-collegiate credit hours and thereby, accelerate college completion towards earning a
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science (BAAS) degree. The BC-PLA approach included four
internal variables: skills, knowledge, cognitive process, and tools/technology, and three external
variables: numeric course grade, the O*NET job zone and the O*NET specific vocational
preparation.
