Mentee to Mentor: My Experience as a First-Year Student and Mentor in the LEAD Program

Abstract

As a peer coach in the program and a program participant, this discussant and storyteller experienced benefits from creating connections with faculty as a first-year student in the program and has witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of this initiative on students as a coach. This participant will contribute a personal vignette and participate in the panel discussion, providing their perspective on the program. This student will present perspectives on the theoretical framework and results from the first faculty presentation. The student will discuss how LEAD impacted their self-perceptions, sense of belonging, academic confidence, and academic outcomes.
