There's Something About Bicycles: Cycling Methodologies and Qualitative Research

Sun, April 27, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This paper introduces cycling methodologies, a novel approach to qualitative inquiry in which participants use bicycles to observe and make art as a means of exploring phenomena. Cycling methodologies enrich qualitative inquiry by (1) deflating human exceptionalism and privilege that posthumanism attempts to divest from, (2) offering an embodied means of engaging with data, and (3) challenging normative ethics practices. Grounded in posthuman and new materialist theoretical frameworks, the paper suggests cycling methodologies as pertinent to the future imaginaries of just educational research in qualitative inquiry.
