Abstract

Although a growing number of schools advocate for positive mental health, the efficacy of wraparound services has been difficult to assess among Latine children and their families. This 10-month case study utilizes a sample of 27 K-5th grade teachers, the school administrator, and 281 Latine parents and their children to test the hypothesis that a school-based mental health program can strengthen students’ developmental assets and positively impact the school environment. The study utilized triangulated data to determine the program effects on children’s (a) mental well-being and (b) positive youth development. Findings from the study report that the universal mental health program increased the developmental asset attainment in 5 out of 8 thriving indicators, thus transforming the child within his/her environment.
