Sat, April 26, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI), the ability of a computer system to simulate human intelligences and mimic human-like cognitive functions may offer new opportunities to mitigate the limitations in early education practices. Specifically, child assessment practices could be influenced substantially by using digital assessment powered by AI. The current study examined multiple ways that AI is used in vocabulary assessment. By using a narrative review of existing AI studies in education, the study attempts to provide insights for practitioners and researchers to use AI to mitigate challenges in early vocabulary assessments. Results showed three groups of AI technologies: (1) AI to prepare early vocabulary assessment, (2) AI to conduct/administer early vocabulary assessment, (3) AI to utilize early vocabulary assessment results.
