Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3F

Abstract

Leadership preparation programs, state legislatures, policy groups, and districts must be ready to deploy the necessary resources to support all educational leaders to grow in their knowledge of linguistic diversity and its role in education. This research focuses on dual language bilingual education (DLBE) programs to help leaders be culturally and linguistically responsive to all students’ needs. DLBE aims to transform schools through its emphasis on linguistic diversity and rigorous/culturally sustaining curriculum. The study provides a longitudinal and in-depth portrait of multiple school leaders in four school districts. Findings identify areas in which the 2015 version of Professional Standards for Educational Leadership can be revised to include specific actions, recommendations, and knowledge base to support equity-driven leadership through DLBE.
