Previous studies on gifted education have mostly been conducted in the Western context. Few studies have examined the challenges facing gifted and talented education in rural Asia. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the experiences of gifted and talented students and their teachers in rural settings. Through in-depth interviews with 9 teachers and 10 students at a rural primary school, findings revealed prevalent ambiguity and a lack of clarity in the perceptions among both teachers and students. This study identified significant gaps in the current teaching resources, curricula, and supplementary activities that fail to adequately meet the specific needs of these students. The study findings contribute to the literature on gifted and talented education and have valuable implications for policymakers.
