Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Classroom management is still considered as one of the major problems for novice and experienced teachers. Various research has shown the impact of classroom management on student learning. Thus, training future teachers to effective classroom management strategies has become imperative. This research presents an innovative observation tool that can be used live, in classrooms, to deliver objective feedback to future teachers on the strategies they implement to manage a classroom. The first results show that future teachers tend to use preventive actions, especially actions to engage students on-task. However, more emphasis should be put on teaching rules and procedures and on effective corrective actions during their training.
