Abstract

The purpose of this theoretical research study is to examine the intersections between learner agency theory and hip hop pedagogy. We posit an integrated theoretical approach to conceptualizing learner agency and its application within hip hop pedagogy as an example of learner agency “in action.” We used Bandura’s social cognitive theory and cultural-historical activity theory to frame our analysis. Our method of inquiry includes 4 phases of systematic review. Findings show that learner agency theory is an interdisciplinary construct that can be heavily applied within the Hip Hop Studies discipline.
