Abstract

This study investigates the intertwined influence of nested environmental factors on student
learning achievement, aiming to gain a more holistic understanding of how environmental
factors collectively impact learning. Utilizing a longitudinal dataset from 2015 to 2019, we apply
hierarchical clustering, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and regression analysis to examine
three dimensions of environmental factors affecting student learning achievement. The results
indicate that Immediate Environment and Broader Socioeconomics significantly impact
children’s academic performance, with variations across different locales. Specifically, family
factors are crucial in rural areas, while school factors predominantly affect non-rural settings.
This research highlights the need for tailored educational policies that enhance school resources
in non-rural areas and strengthen family support in rural contexts, ultimately promoting equity in
education.
