Longitudinal Influence of Identity Safety on School Attitudes (Poster 26)

Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

The extent to which students experience identity safety at school (i.e., feel they belong and can be successful; Aronson & Steele, 2005) consistently predicts positive school experiences and academic performance (Lowe, 2020). Results from a longitudinal study demonstrate that student identity safety predicts more positive school attitudes among 4th-12th grade students across multiple years. These results expand our understanding of the influence of identity safety on school attitudes as consistent among students of all grade levels and should be attended to throughout primary and secondary grades.
