Equity Leadership Dynamics: Analyzing PK-12 School Approaches

Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Equity endeavors in PK-12 education aim to cultivate a nurturing environment of justice and joy that is conducive to learning for all students. Research points toward a need for schools to be more equitable regarding student experience, academic achievement, and teacher practice. To combat this, PK-12 school districts have worked to focus more on diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure that students receive equitable access throughout their school experience. School boards and superintendents have appointed educators, consultants, administrators, and equity leaders to these positions, and they are expected to alleviate systemic problems throughout the district. To that end, it was the intent of this study to examine the successes and challenges these equity leaders have experienced in their roles.
