Abstract

There remains a dearth of inquiry into the decline of male college enrollment in the United States. Utilizing the nationally (USA) representative High School Longitudinal Study (HSLS), researchers examined the effect of alignment between student and parent educational expectations, also known as aligned ambition, on college enrollment among male students five years after high school graduation. Using a cox proportional-hazards model, researchers found that aligned ambition was positively associated with college enrollment and that this effect did not vary by socioeconomic status. These results are partially in line with previous research and the significant implications of them are discussed.
