Abstract

This study addresses the urgent need for an effective artificial intelligence (AI) literacy curriculum in higher education. Grounded in a thorough literature review of global AI literacy frameworks, we used an existing four-dimensional AI literacy framework comprising the cognitive, metacognitive, affective, and social dimensions to propose an innovative curriculum for higher education. The proposed curriculum aims to cultivate students as smart users, self-regulated learners and independent thinkers to cope with changes in an AI-driven society. We conducted a systematic review of 18 relevant studies published between 2020 to 2024. This comprehensive review seeks to guide future curriculum development and enhance the integration of AI literacy in higher education. The preliminary implications of the study are discussed.
