Through Two Lenses: Postgraduate Students’ and Instructors’ Insights on Synchronous Team Teaching in Education

Sat, April 26, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

Team teaching, referring to two instructors collaborating in designing, planning, delivering, and assessing the module for the same group of students simultaneously, has shown promise for student learning and faculty development. However, its impact on postgraduate education students remains unexplored. This exploratory sequential mixed-methods study investigated instructors' and postgraduate students' perceptions of team teaching effectiveness and the relationship between instructor collaboration and student outcomes. Findings revealed the strengths and weaknesses of team teaching from both perspectives and a strong positive correlation between perceived instructor collaboration and perceived teaching effectiveness. Recommendations for enhancing team teaching effectiveness and faculty professional development with team teaching are presented.
