Universal Access for Learning: Digital Literacies for Equity and Inclusion (Poster 8)

Wed, April 23, 9:00 to 10:30am MDT (9:00 to 10:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3A

Abstract

This chapter explores Universal Access for Learning (UAL) in the development of equitable and accessible digital literacies instruction and assessment. Using intersecting tenets and practices of Universal Design for Learning and multiliteracies pedagogy, UAL provides a vision and roadmap positioning readily available digital tools as recognized literacies options, rather than scaffolds to traditional literacies. This repositioning aligns in-school experiences with those outside of school and in the workforce. UAL supports international education plans focused on inclusion, equity, and accessibility where learners use their multiliterate agency to participate in and build a literate life regardless of culture, language, or learner variabilities.
