Literacy organizations and recent curricular standards call for teachers to integrate technology in literacy instruction. Despite some preparation, teachers worldwide struggle with this. Recent research provides some insights about how teacher educators prepare teachers to integrate technology in literacy instruction, and what supports or creates barriers for their practices. In this chapter we present (1) teacher educators’ digital integration instruction, including technologies that teacher educators prepare teachers to use, and strategies that teacher educators teach teachers to use; (2) supports for digital integration instruction, such as teacher preparation methods, design experiment methods, and institutional and personal characteristics; and (3) barriers to digital integration instruction, namely institutional characteristics, teacher educator characteristics, and time; and (4) practical implications, research suggestions, and future considerations.
