Towards Renewal and Repair: Crossing Boundaries and Building Hybrid Contexts in International Digital Literacies Research (Poster 1)

Wed, April 23, 9:00 to 10:30am MDT (9:00 to 10:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3A

Abstract

Early in the development of the Handbook, the editorial team recognized that we were individually and collectively constrained by our own perspectives, experiences, scholarship, networks, contexts, and understandings of the digital literacies field. This poster highlights ways the Handbook’s co-editors purposefully worked to cross boundaries in the design, content and process of publishing a handbook to advance the field of digital literacies research. In particular, we convened virtual meetings with scholars around the world to co-construct a set of priorities for digital literacies research. Co-editors also advocated for publisher’s funding to enable translation as well as editorial funding to support translation into English for teams writing in their own language. Additionally, we purposefully paired authors with complementary expertise but whose perspectives, when combined, offer boundary-crossing insights. Finally, we secured open access funding for the volume and secured space for supplemental resources on a companion website. Challenges, opportunities, and implications for international collaboration and research will be discussed.
