Trust on Digital Platforms: Designing Digital Learning Environments on Cybersecurity for Older Adults

Sat, April 26, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

In Germany, digital platforms have become indispensable, particularly for those requiring care. Older adults encounter significant challenges as these online systems often supplant familiar methods, raising issues of data security and privacy. Local learning environments effectively foster trust through personal relationships, an element often missing in online platforms. The BMBF-funded “CrossComITS” project addresses these gaps by training mediators and developing a comprehensive online platform. This study, based on 10 in-depth interviews with mediators, underscores the pivotal role of trust and personal relations in learning. This suggests that the design of digital learning environments for older adults should focus on profiles rather than on courses. A prototype platform will be developed and tested with older adults and mediators in autumn 2024.
