In her book, The Spirit of Our Work: Black Teachers (Re)member, Cynthia Dillard (2021) reminds us how Black people have built and blazed trails, sharing and representing our knowledge through joy and humanizing acts. This looks like drawing on an understanding of what it means to live an authentic truth. Therefore, this symposium is designed to simulate the kitchen table. In this space, four Black queer and queer-adjacent teacher educators transparently and with vulnerability share our experiences navigating higher education. The questions that guide our discussion are: (1) who are the scholars we are being pointed to, (2) how are we replicating what has been done, and (3) how are we disrupting censured and harmful practices?
