Teacher Recruitment: Relationship Between Teacher Applicant Demographics and Sources of Job Information

Sun, April 27, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

Teacher shortage is a nationwide challenge questioning the efficacy of existing recruitment. With a limited pool of available educators, districts are pressured to compete for qualified candidates. While research highlights teacher motivation and the role of monetary incentives in job search, little is known about how job-seeking educators learn about available employment opportunities, especially those that lead to employment. In this presentation proposal, we examined the demographics of recently hired teachers from a large urban public school district in the Midwest. In addition, the relationship between teacher demographics and job information sources was explored.
