Abstract

In this session, we present findings from a comprehensive meta-analysis of the relations between student and teacher personality traits and the quality of teacher-student relationship by synthesizing 233 effect sizes from 55 unique studies (N = 40,179). Student agreeableness (ρ = 0.47), proactive personality (ρ = 0.48), and prosocial personality (ρ = 0.59) were among the robust predictors of positive teacher-student relationship quality, holding constant all other moderators. Student aggression (ρ = 0.62) and neuroticism (ρ = 0.22) showed positive associations with negative teacher-student relationship quality. Teacher agreeableness (ρ = 0.31) and neuroticism (ρ = -0.41) had significant predictive validity for positive teacher-student relationship quality. Findings will be discussed in light of their potential implications for educational practice.
