Factors Supporting and Inhibiting Online EdD Student Success: Making Space for Remedy and Repair

Fri, April 25, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

Since 2013, an online Ed.D. in Higher Education, framed by CPED’s principles, has emphasized equity, social justice, and leadership for positive societal impact. Addressing doctoral student attrition, especially in online formats, this session examines a quantitative study exploring online Ed.D. students' perceptions of belongingness, barriers, and supports. Focusing on academic, social, and emotional needs, and the unique challenges faced by female students, the findings highlight the importance of community, connectedness, and comprehensive support systems. This roundtable will discuss how these insights can inform program improvements to foster inclusivity and persistence in online doctoral education, contributing to leadership preparation and development in educational contexts.
