Sat, April 26, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2A

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly expanded in education, highlighting the need for effective integration into classrooms through teacher preparation programs. A systematic literature review identified 19 studies to understand how these programs integrate AI technologies and support pre-service teachers’ use. We utilized the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Artificial Intelligence – Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (AI-TPACK) framework to analyze the studies. The findings show that (a) programs focus on using AI to enhance pre-service teachers' pedagogical knowledge; (b) perceptions and beliefs significantly impact pre-service teachers’ readiness to use AI; and (c) few studies address AI's role in supporting teachers' content knowledge. This review may help educational partners develop a vision for integrating AI into teacher preparation programs and beyond.
