The Teacher Cannot Be Positioned: A New Cultural Myth of Decolonized Social Studies Teaching

Sun, April 27, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

This paper builds on Deborah Britzman’s (1986, 2003) three cultural myths of teaching by proposing a fourth cultural myth: the teacher cannot be positioned. This myth explains the impossibilities that emerge from the tensions between upholding cultural myths of teaching and pursuing an orientation toward anticolonial social studies.
