Integrating a Generative AI-Enhanced Virtual Reality Simulation Into Teacher Education: A Preliminary Design Study (Poster 14)

Fri, April 25, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

This study evaluates the usability and effectiveness of a Generative AI -enhanced VRsimulation, TeacherGen@I, designed to enhance pre-service teachers' teaching competencies. This study employed a mixed-methods exploratory design within a design-based research, focusing on the early testing phase. This study conducted a triangulation perspective to identify technical challenges and perceived utility within authentic teacher education contexts. We conducted a usability evaluation with both graduate and undergraduate students, performed a thematic analysis of learners’ reflection journals based on multimedia design principles, and analyzed students’ teaching practice experiences assisted by the VR simulation. This research contributes to the practical integration of VR simulations by addressing technological challenges, evaluating their application, and demonstrating effective integration strategies within a teacher education program.
