Abstract

Little research elucidates the contributions of master’s-level and doctoral higher education professional preparation programs at HBCUs. These programs exist across only approximately 20% of these institutions. In this conceptual paper, the researchers will explore the historical legacies and contemporary status of HBCU higher education graduate programs. Recommendations and future directions are provided to enhance capacity and amplify these programs. These include strategies to increase funding, distinguishing programs, professional connectivities, and approaches to increase scholarly contributions.
