Fri, April 25, 3:20 to 4:50pm MDT (3:20 to 4:50pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 108

Abstract

The introduction of generative AI (GenAI) has left educators grappling with how to use GenAI. Teacher educators are uniquely positioned to consider how to support their students’ learning while modeling effective instructional practices for future educators. This study explored how educational psychology coursework might provide a context in which future professionals can learn to use GenAI for teaching and learning. Collecting data related to undergraduates’ (n = 325) awareness of policies for GenAI in their educational psychology courses, student’s perceptions of what they need to know and how they might use GenAI with their future K-12 students revealed varied views. Implications include the need to know how to use GenAI responsibly as well as the role of instructor practices.
