Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 304

Abstract

Reading achievement declined drastically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Closing the COVID gap and accelerating learning has been a priority; it is essential to identify and implement evidence-based programs and interventions that can meet these goals. Recent emphasis on the science-of-reading provide further impetus. Prior efficacy studies have shown positive impacts of Enhanced Core Reading Instruction (ECRI), a comprehensive approach to early reading instruction and intervention, on broad measures of students’ reading outcomes. We present two years of results of a rigorous randomized controlled trial examining the effectiveness of ECRI under routine implementation conditions on the foundational reading skills of first-grade students with or at risk for reading disabilities.
