Abstract

In the evolving realm of medical education where AI technologies play an increasingly pivotal role, it has become crucial to embed principles of AI ethics. The purpose of this scoping review is to synthesize key characteristics and focal areas of the existing literature on AI ethics in medical education, including geographical distribution, year of publication, article type, keywords, conclusions, and ethical concerns. This review also aims to identify trends and gaps in the research to inform future studies in the field. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines were followed. The most frequently observed focal themes include incorporating AI in medical education, AI ethical principles in medical education, and ChatGPT in healthcare education.
