Fri, April 25, 11:40am to 1:10pm MDT (11:40am to 1:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Global mobility serves as a transformative arena, shaping the self-perceptions of mobile individuals amid diverse cultures. Using an art-based method, this study delved into the narratives of international women faculty, examining how their experiences in global mobility contribute to their evolving sense of self. The findings suggest the multifaceted nature of international women faculty’s identity, encompassing cultural, gender, and academic aspects. The study highlights how these faculty members negotiate their sense of and illuminates their experiences of losing and reconnecting with their identity while navigating multiple layers of marginalization and invalidation. The study emphasizes the need for higher education institutions to provide supports that acknowledge and address the complex identity negotiations and challenges faced by international women faculty.
